Understand the INFJ Spirit with 50 Quotes By INFJs

It’s easy to feel alone in the world, to feel that nobody understands you. This is especially true of INFJs as they make up only 1% of the US population. These types rarely meet others who share their visions, quirks, insights, and passions. Some of us might wonder, “Are there any others like me out there?”, “Will I ever find someone who understands?”. It can be a comfort to read the thoughts and insights of other INFJs, to realize that you are not alone in how you feel or what ignites your passion. These 50 quotes not only can provide solidarity to INFJs, they can inspire us, and they can also show us the diversity of the type. I purposefully tried to find INFJs that spanned numerous different ages in time and career fields. You’ll see people quoted here like Dante Alighieri, Jane Goodall, even Benedict Cumberbatch. Having a personality type doesn’t put you in a box, it doesn’t mean you will turn out just like all the other INFJs (or ISTJs, or ENFPs). There is a vast breadth of freedom and uniqueness that embodies each person regardless of their type. I hope these quotes can show that.

    1. Interesting! I know Kierkegaard and Jung were typed INFJs by David Keirsey, but he isn’t always accurate so it’s possible he’s wrong. It’s always hard to type people who came before, you can’t really sit down and have a consultation with them 🙂

  1. Indeed,Kierkegaard had some of the quotes that spoke to me most. And he has been typed INFP until i read this article. The one about being yourself, especially.
Manson’s quote about constant déja-vus is the best of them all.I understood the nature of Ni more from that quote alone than from the rest.If anything,i feel this quote is a good way to differentiate INFPs from INFJs.
I know for certain that, while i’ve had a handful of those moments in my life, they are not my forte or anything constant for me. Which rules out me ever typing as INFJ.

Does that mean that you respect and adhere to Keirsey’s way of thinking?

    1. Hey Kaven! I only have a minute but just wanted to reply since I’m so late! I do respect David Keirsey, although I don’t agree with all of his theory. I’m a strong believer in the impact of the cognitive functions and I don’t believe he took those as much into consideration. I love his books and I think he does a wonderful job of helping us understand a lot of the intelligence and character behind each type, but sometimes I think he gets a little too stereotypical about type and I think this is from not using the cognitive functions in his book. I love, love, love Kierkegaard and always have. I’ve always really strongly felt a connection when I read his books. So when I saw him typed as an INFJ by Keirsey it clicked with me. It is very possible that Keirsey mistyped him so he may be an INFP as well, but I think the quotes I put in this article would resonate with either type because they reflect his introversion, and possibility-focused mind. Okay, gotta get back to my kids, but I felt bad for not responding for so long! He may be an INFP, but I couldn’t say for sure 🙂 with famous people there’s a lot of guesswork involved and I can’t really be 100% sure 🙂

  2. Wow. Some quotes were so accurate of how I feel and think. I am an Infj, though I first scored Intj with 1%T. I read about the types I could be, then I took a test to see whether I’m an Intj or An Infj. I scored 75% Infj and 25%Intj. So I thought “Ok, it seems I’ve been misstyped, I seem to be an Infj”. Then I read more about others types and infj, I then was shocked of how many things are what describes and infj, things that made me feel like a weirdo because no one would even understand what I was trying to explain about what I like and how I am. After I found out that even my favourite author of all times, Dostoievski, is an Infj – I always loved his work more than anyones because he described so well things that I understood, things that I’ve been through, things that I see the same way, I realized it’s now 100% true that I am an Infj.
I read about things that Infjs can relate to, that describes them and I was amazed and happy that wasn’t anything wrong with me, although everyone else, except my only best friend, would say I’m a weirdo because I am not like everyone else.

  3. Hi there, I don’t see any quotes from Nelson Mandela.
From what I understand he is an INFJ too.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

      1. Here I am here is my quote, There is one right road, many wrong turns, don’t get so lost you can’t find your way back, and don’t think your going to make it to your destination, If you don’t stop and ask yourself where your at.
