If you’re an INFP, chances are you’ve spent a lot of time exploring possibilities.
Your mind wanders through ideas, connections, stories, and imagined futures. Extraverted Intuition (Ne) pulls you toward inspiration, creativity, and new horizons.

But sometimes that same gift can leave you feeling scattered.
Too many ideas.
Too many directions.
Too many “what ifs.”
Or perhaps people in your life discount your ideas, cause you to doubt yourself, or make you feel like your imagination is more of a liability than a gift.
What many INFPs don’t realize is that balance doesn’t come from shutting down that imaginative energy.
It comes from learning how to anchor it.
And that’s where Introverted Sensing (Si) comes in.
The Overlooked Function That Grounds the INFP Mind
Introverted Sensing often gets misunderstood.
It’s sometimes described as rigid, traditional, or routine-focused. But that description barely scratches the surface, especially for INFPs.
For you, Si can become something far richer, and it can be something that works alongside your intuition in powerful ways.
It’s the function that:
• Holds onto meaningful memories
• Creates rituals that feel comforting and grounding
• Connects you to personal stories and experiences
• Notices small details that evoke warmth and familiarity
• Helps you build a sense of “home” within yourself
When Si and Ne work together, something beautiful happens.
Your imagination gains roots.
Your creativity gains texture and meaning.
Your life begins to feel less chaotic and more like a story unfolding.
Why Many INFPs Struggle with Si
Because Si is a tertiary function, many INFPs don’t consciously develop it early in life.
Instead, they may experience it in less helpful ways:
• Getting stuck replaying painful memories
• Feeling nostalgic for things that are gone
– Feeling vulnerable and anxious when stuck in a rut
• Becoming overwhelmed by comparisons to the past
• Feeling like they have no stable “anchor” in their life
But when you learn to work with Si intentionally, it becomes one of the most comforting and stabilizing parts of your personality.
It helps you:
• Slow down
• Reconnect with what matters
• Create rituals that nourish your spirit
• Appreciate small joys
• Build a life that feels meaningful and grounded

About Your Guide

I’m a certified MBTI® practitioner with over 10 years of experience working closely with INFPs through coaching, writing, and deep-dive function work. I’ve spent thousands of hours helping INFPs untangle self-doubt, reclaim trust in their inner voice, and learn how to live in alignment without burning out or disappearing into other people’s expectations.
I don’t believe Si is an afterthought or something that only appears in negative ways for INFPs.
I believe it needs to be understood, nourished, and honored. Especially in the world we live in today where so many people are distracted, disconnected, and struggling to find that sense of “home.”
