Here’s the Anime You’ll Love, Based On Your Myers-Briggs® Personality Type

Several years ago I started watching anime with my teenage daughter. At first, I didn’t expect to be impressed. With five kids I’ve seen enough “cartoons” that I figured it would be more of the same. Instead, I was swept away completely! I loved the art style, the dramatic music, emotional intensity, nuanced characters, and complex storylines. Here’s the Anime You’ll Love, Based On Your Myers-Briggs® Personality Type

ENFP – Naruto

Naruto ENFPs

If you don’t like your destiny, don’t accept it. Instead have the courage to change it the way you want it to be.”

Naruto tells the story of a young orphan boy, Naruto Uzamaki, who desperately wants to become the Hogake (the strongest ninja in his village). Along the way he makes friends and enemies, and learns that the path to becoming Hokage is fraught with peril.

Why would ENFPs like it?

Frequently hailed as one of the greatest animes of all time, Naruto is all about going after your dreams and never giving up. Dismissed and ignored as an orphan child in his village, Naruto has to work twice as hard as everyone else to be taken seriously. ENFPs can often identify with Naruto’s plight and his vision. Enthusiastic and imaginative, they are driven to achieve their dreams no matter the cost. Yet because of their broad imagination and playful personalities, they aren’t taken as seriously as they want to be. Many ENFPs report that people are condescending or patronizing to them, simply for being who they are.

ENFPs will also love the heart and moral consciousness of Naruto. While he encounters many formidable villains, he never loses sight of who he is and what he believes in. This is evidenced by the way he forgives even the most reprehensible villains if they truly seek redemption. ENFPs will love the inspiring story, the varied characters, the focus on overcoming childhood pain, and the themes of friendship. Plus there’s enough quirky humor to keep things interesting.

ENTP – Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal ALchemist ENTP

“Stand up and walk. Keep moving forward. You’ve got two good legs. So, get up and use them. You’re strong enough to make your own path.” -Edward Elric

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the story of two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who are trying to find a way to bring their mother back to life after she dies of a terminal illness. In the process they break one of the cardinal rules of alchemy and lose their bodies. Edward loses his left leg while Alphonse loses his entire body. To help Alphonse, Edward sacrifices his right arm and they bind Alphonse’s soul to a suit of armor. The series follows their journey as they seek the Philosopher’s Stone in order to regain their bodies.

Why would ENTPs like it?

ENTPs love Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood because it is unapologetically brilliant. Edward Elric, an ENTP character, has the quick wit and irreverent humor (and argumentativeness) that makes ENTPs shine. ENTPs will love the creative solutions, the complex plot, and the multifaceted characters. They’ll also love the quirky, offbeat humor that is sprinkled throughout the show.

INFP – Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion INFP

“The thread of human hope is spun with the flax of sorrow.” – Kaworu Nagisa

Neon Genesis Evangelion tells the story of a world on the brink of destruction. The only hope for humanity lies in giant robots called Evangelions, which can only be piloted by a select few teenagers. As the story progresses, we learn that there is more to the Evangelions than meets the eye and that the true enemy may be within.

Why would INFPs like it?

INFPs will appreciate the depth of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The story is fraught with moral ambiguity and existential angst, and raises many questions about what it means to be human. INFPs will identify with the main character, Shinji, who is an introverted and sensitive boy who is thrust into a world of violence and destruction. He must learn to pilot an Evangelion, despite his fears and self-doubts, in order to save humanity.

INFPs will also enjoy the complex relationships between the characters, the beautiful animation, and the thought-provoking story. They may find themselves challenged by the dark themes and violence, but they will appreciate the depth of the show and its emotional resonance.

INTP – The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K INTP

“Good grief. Ordinary people sure are a pain.” – Saiki K.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is the story of a high school student who just wants to live a normal life. The only problem is that he has psychic powers. He must use all of his ingenuity and wit to keep his powers hidden from the world, while still trying to blend in and keep a low profile. In the process, absurd situations ensue and his quirky parents and friends only make things more complicated.

Why would INTPs like it?

INTPs will find Saiki K. hilariously relatable. Sarcastic and deadpan, he is constantly annoyed by the people around him, who are either too loud, too emotional, or just plain dumb. He would rather be left alone to read or eat his coffee jelly, but instead he’s constantly surrounded by people who just don’t understand him and seem to want things from him.

INTPs will also enjoy the fast-paced and absurd humor of the show. They will find themselves laughing at Saiki’s misfortune, and sympathizing with his plight. They may also appreciate the show’s clever meta-humor and originality.

ENFJ – Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)

Demon Slayer ENFJ

ENTJ – Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Code Geass ENTJ

“Before creation there must be destruction. If my soul stands in the way, then I’ll toss it aside. Yes, I have no choice but to move forward.” – Lelouch vi Britannia

This is my all-time favorite anime, with one of the best ENTJ characters ever depicted on screen. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion tells the story of Lelouch vi Britannia, a prince who was exiled from his country after his mother was assassinated. He returns to Britannia under the guise of Zero, a masked vigilante who leads a rebel army against the corrupt Britannian Empire.

Why would ENTJs like it?

ENTJs will appreciate Lelouch’s brilliance and strategic genius. He is able to outthink and outmaneuver his enemies at every turn. He is also unafraid of taking risks, and is always moving forward towards his goals. ENTJs will identify with Lelouch’s determination and single-mindedness. Like Lelouch, ENTJs often see life as a chess game, and they are always planning ahead several moves.

ENTJs also love Code Geass because it is full of political intrigue, backstabbing, and Machiavellian schemes. ENTJs will enjoy trying to predict the next move, and will be impressed by the show’s complex plot. They will also appreciate the epic action scenes and the show’s overall cool factor.

INFJ – The Promised Neverland

Promised Neverland INFJ

“I can’t afford to make a mistake. Because I can’t let anyone die. If I run away, the plan will deviate. If it deviates even a little, it’ll be problematic. I don’t even want a chance of losing.” – Norman

If you don’t mind shedding a few tears, then I highly recommend The Promised Neverland. It is the story of a group of orphans who live in a secluded orphanage, and their fight to escape from the clutches of the evil forces behind it.

Why would INFJs like it?

INFJs will find in Norman, one of the main characters in the series, a kindred spirit. He is driven by his desire to save as many people as he can, and will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. Like many INFJs he’s gifted at anticipating what will happen and planning several steps ahead of everyone else. Nothing can stop him from doing everything to protect the people he loves.

INFJs will also appreciate the series’ complex plot and its focus on relationships. The show is full of surprises and plot twists, which will keep INFJs guessing until the very end. They will also be touched by the show’s messages of hope and love in the face of evil and darkness.

Why would INTJs like it?

INTJs will be drawn to the show’s complex plot and its focus on understanding morality. They will appreciate the philosophical questions that the show poses, and will enjoy debating the merits of Light’s actions. They will also be impressed by Light’s intelligence and strategic planning. He is always several steps ahead of everyone else, although the infamous L poses a particular challenge. After all, it’s a sports movie, and I notoriously despise them. But after I started watching it I was hooked. ESFPs are all about having fun and enjoying life to the fullest. And Haikyuu!! is definitely a series that knows how to have fun. ISFPs – Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)

My Hero Academia ISFP

My Hero Academia tells the story of a young Man, Izuku Midoriya, who desperately wants to be a hero. He lives in a world where most people are born with powers, or “quirks” as they’re called. However, Izuku was born without a quirk. Jeered and mocked by his classmates, he still holds on to his dream of becoming a hero. Everything seems hopeless until he meets All Might, the world’s greatest hero. All Might takes Izuku under his wing and teaches him what it really means to be a hero.

ISTPs – Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan ISTP

“If we only focus on making the best moves, we will never get the better of our opponent. When necessary, we must be willing to take big risks, and be prepared to lose everything. Unless we change how we fight, we cannot win.” – Erwin Smith

One of the most popular animes of the past few years, Attack on Titan tells the story of Eren Yeager, a young boy who dreams of one day exploring the world outside his walled city. But when Titans, giant humanoid creatures, suddenly appear and destroy his home, Eren must overcome immense trauma in order to fight for his life and the preservation of mankind.

Why would ISTPs like it?

Attack on Titan is an intense, action-packed series that will keep ISTPs on the edge of their seats. The show is full of suspense and surprises, and the battles are brutal and unrelenting. While Eren Yeager may not be an ISTP, the scout Levi Ackerman is one of the best ISTPs to be captured in the anime world. ISTPs will enjoy the battle tactics, strategies, and nail-biting action sequences in this show. Attack on Titan is a smart show, but it’s not so full of its own intellectual superiority that it gets dull.

  1. I’ve never heard of Psycho-pass but it sounds interesting. Have you considered doing a Mbti on the Hunter x Hunter series? It’s my favorite anime (rewatching it for the 3rd time now) and the manga just came out of Hiatus so I’m looking forward to seeing another season of the anime.

  2. Pretty sure Naruto was the obvious choice for ENFJ. He seeks to protect a greater whole just as often as he tries to help his friends. INFJ’s would like the demon slayer. They prefer to protect individuals they know before helping others. Plus both NFJ’s like eschatology and myth, but I’s have more fascination with demons, where E’s examine the implied meaning of those things.

    1. When I wanted to try an anime for the first time, I asked one of my closest friends who also happened to be an anime lover. He knows me pretty well so he told me I should watch “Full Metal Alchemist” as my first anime and I’m an ENTP. I think he couldn’t find a better match.

  3. as an intj and death note being my favourite anime, this seemed quite accurate! i was kind of surprised

  4. I’m INFP but Evangelion is okay to me and though I relate to Shinji, I don’t really like him. I’m actually way more obsessed with Demon Slayer. And love Fruits Basket. If anything I think people would prefer the opposite of their type (me liking two anime’s meant for E types). I’m quiet and shy so I admire Tanjiro and Tohru for their friendly nature and wish I could be like them.

  5. I feel like Death Note is only paired with INTJ, because Light is probably an INTJ. I love it as an ENFP, and can not get into Naruto. Others on the list I actually like are Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, Fruits Basket, and Code Geass.

  6. This is so accurate as an Isfp, I really love Hero Academia, Sometimes when I’m asked, it’s the only answer I could ever remember haha

  7. Let’s not discriminate… Every type should watch any (or more like each one) of these animes, they are all just so brilliant 😁

  8. I’m an anime junkie and while as an istj my interests go far beyond that. I would say that description of animes is probably my second favorite. I’m more a fan of outcast heroes who can be op when pushed generally bc I relate to it more. The psychological genre however is a big draw just not a main one.

  9. Not a bad list. Attack on Titan and Fullmetal Alchemist are the best. I’m glad your daughter opened your eyes.

  10. I’ve actually never heard of The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., but I’m definitely interested in trying it now!

    1. I have already watched 3 seasons of Disastrous Life of saiki k
      I love it (◍•ᴗ•◍)
I am sure you are also going to love it (Best of luck ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ (^‿^)

  11. As an ISFP, I would personally pick Inuyasha as my favorite anime, it has everything I love, action, romance, great animation (for it’s time), characters you can really connect with, and an impactful and very creative story.

  12. As an ISTP who’s favourite anime is Attack on Titan, I’m rather surprised at the accuracy. I’ve watched most of these anime, but none have captured my interest like Attack on Titan has. Death Note would be my number 2 pick though.

  13. I have only seen Saiki K, and I am an INTP. I’ve heard of the others, just couldn’t get myself to watch them. I am so happy Saiki K represents my type, because I really did love the show.

  14. I’m an infp and I’ve only watched Attack on Titan. I’m willing to give others a try they all seem awesome 😁

  15. I’ve watched all the animes listed for the most part, but I laughed so loud when I saw mine: INTJ = Death Note. Death Note was my favorite manga/anime growing up (for the reasons listed too) and a lot of my stuff is still named after characters from that show.

  16. I’m an ISFP and I love Gintama the most. Humour is not lost even during sad moments. I like the carefreeness of it all. The “never give up on your dreams” trope in most shounen anime is a bit too much. In Gintama, however, it is most relatable and practical. Gintama acknowledges the imperfection/contradiction within one’s own principles.

  17. As an ISTP, I do love Attack On Titan. It is indeed full of surprises, a great plottwist that won’t stop me from watching and loving the series. This is my number one favorite anime of all time. Won’t regret to spend my time rewatching it.

  18. I think INTPs will love Hunter x Hunter because this manga is the most INTP work I’ve ever seen. All the settings, from battle system to character personalities, are so logically consistent and well explained. Togashi spent a lot of time explaining each character’s internal logic behind their actions, and almost no character is black and white, as they all act according to their unique motivation, no external standard can really define any of the major characters, yet everything makes so much sense. Detailed and complicated settings that are heavily based on internal logic, while the worldbuilding is massive and has so much to explore. I disagree that Te users will like hunter x hunter as much as Ti users, this anime has waaaaay too much Ti.
