10 Things You Crave Every Day as an ESTJ Personality Type

I’ve been writing a series of articles describing the things that each of the 16 Myers-Briggs personality types really needs in a typical day to be happy. Sure, not all days can afford us these things. Every once in a while we all get a day that feels like being steamrolled by a Mack truck. But knowing what makes us inspired and satisfied can help us to arrange our lives towards fulfillment. It can also help our partners and loved ones to understand us and better help us out when we need it!

ESTJs, or “the Captains”, are often seen as take-charge, assertive, bold types. They stand out in the workplace and often wind up in leadership positions at work and in their communities. But there’s more to the ESTJ than being in charge, making things happen, and checking items off a list. While ESTJs need a sense of purpose and enjoy a productive life, they also crave a life of integrity, meaning, and connection. Today’s article is a list of all the things I’ve seen ESTJs mention time and time again as satisfying to them in my years as an MBTI® practitioner.

10 Things ESTJs Wish They Could Have Every Single Day

1. A Sense of Purpose

ESTJs, you’re all about getting things done with a clear aim in mind. Whether it’s at work, home, or even during your downtime, having a meaningful goal keeps you buzzing with energy. No purpose, no drive—simple as that.

2. Momentum Towards Goals

You’re not the type to sit idly by. You need to see progress and keep moving forward. Whether it’s ticking items off your to-do list or smashing long-term goals, seeing those accomplishments pile up makes your day.

3. A Peaceful Home Life

After a long day of leading and organizing, a calm and harmonious home is your sanctuary. A peaceful environment helps recharge your batteries and keeps you ready for the next day’s challenges.

4. A Happy Routine

Consistency is key for you. A well-planned day with a steady routine keeps you grounded and happy. From your morning coffee to your evening wind-down, you love knowing what comes next.

5. Laughter

Sure, you can be all about business during your work day, but you also have a humorous side! You especially need time to unwind because you spend so much of your day working, organizing, and managing tasks. Whether it’s a funny meme or a joke from a friend, a bit of humor goes a long way in keeping your spirits up.

6. Organized Surroundings

Chaos is your enemy. You thrive in environments where everything has its place. An organized workspace and tidy home help you stay focused and efficient. Clutter? Not on your watch!

7. Responsible People

You expect a lot from yourself, and you appreciate it when others show the same level of responsibility. Reliable teammates and loyal friends make your world go round.

8. Friends to Unwind With

After a week of hard work and leadership, you need some downtime with friends who understand you. Whether it’s grabbing a drink or having a deep conversation, those moments help you recharge and stay connected.

9. Time in Nature

Nature has a way of calming your mind and refreshing your spirit. A walk in the park, a hike, or even just some time in your garden can make a big difference in your day.

10. A Meaningful Cause

Last but not least, you love contributing to something bigger than yourself. Whether it’s volunteering, supporting a cause, or leading a community project, having a meaningful mission adds an extra layer of fulfillment to your life.

  1. That is a great read Ms. Storm. Interestingly as an ISTP type, I can relate to everything you mentioned about the ESTJ type, with the exception of needing friends. I can’t wait to read your segment on the ISTP type. Cheers!
