The Myers-Briggs® Personality Types of the Bad and Crazy Characters
Bad and Crazy is a fever dream of a show—part cop drama, part psychological horror, part slapstick buddy comedy. My teen daughter and I just finished watching it (she’s a huge fan of Wi Ha-joon) and we both found ourselves so absorbed and wishing there was another season. Bad and Crazy is twelve episodes of raw chaos, moral ambiguity, and characters so vivid you can practically taste their dysfunction. Let’s crack open these types and see what makes them tick.
Not sure who I am or why you should bother with my opinions? I’m a certified MBTI® practitioner with over ten years of experience profiling people in real life and writing about personality type here on this blog (find out more here). That said, profiling fictional characters is always a challenge considering I’m never able to ask those probing questions that really get to the heart of type. Ryu Soo-Yeol: ENTJ

Soo-Yeol is the kind of cop who can talk circles around his conscience and somehow still land the promotion. He’s smart, calculating, and not above twisting a few rules if it means climbing the ladder a little faster. In a world where connections matter more than truth, Soo-Yeol’s the guy who’ll play the game until the board collapses. He’s driven by ambition—dangerous if mishandled but enough to take him to the moon if he doesn’t blow up first.
I see Soo-Yeol typed as an ENTP a lot, but frankly, I’m not seeing it. He’s all about status, strategy, insight, and climbing the ladder. He’s also famously orderly and put-together. Inferior Si? I think not.
ENTPs have a broad focus and tend to jump from one thing to another, finding random connections everywhere. They’re explorers with a hunger for novelty and freedom. They’re less focused on quick results than they are on exploring abstract theories. When an ENTP is talking it tends to be broad-focused, with many connections all over the place, and less of a focus on “the one goal” or getting something done.
Ryu Soo-Yeol is a results person; every decision lines up with his long-term goals. He’s focused, knows what he wants, and goes for it. That singular focus, pragmatic, results-driven logic, and awareness of appearances all point to ENTJ (and Enneagram 3).
On top of the fact that he’s so focused on external metrics and objective measures of “success,” he seems fairly locked-in to his surroundings and his personal aesthetics. He’s always polished, his house is always clean, and he spots details others don’t. This speaks to his tertiary function, Extraverted Sensing (Se). Se is deeply aware of appearances, details, and can read the room without a lot of effort. ENTJs with tertiary Se don’t just go for their goals and focus on metrics, they focus on appearances and can react to changes in their environment rapidly. They tend to like clean, neat surroundings and feel frustrated with mess. ENTPs? Not so much (minus, of course, rare exceptions to the norm).
And then of course there’s auxiliary Introverted Intuition. ENTJs can put the pieces together strategically without a lot of effort. They read behind-the-scenes rather than just focusing on what’s on the surface. Soo-Yeol has insight and can often sense when something is “off.” He’s at his best when he’s harnessing this gift in the interrogation room and in the line of duty.
But back to the story…What makes Soo-Yeol really interesting isn’t just that he’s good at playing the game—it’s that he knows he’s lost sight of why he’s playing it in the first place. Underneath the smooth talk and well-pressed suits, there’s a man who’s haunted by his own compromises. When K shows up like a biker-god of retribution, Soo-Yeol’s forced to face a truth he’s been dodging for years: maybe the biggest threat to his future isn’t the criminals he’s hunting down. It’s the one staring back at him in the mirror.
K: ESTP

K is the kind of guy who shows up in your life like a fist through a window—loud, brash, and unstoppable. He’s the “crazy” to Soo-Yeol’s “bad,” a biker knight in a red-and-black jacket who’s just as likely to break your jaw as he is to save your life. He lives by gut instinct and adrenaline, a force of nature who sees a problem and charges headlong into it with zero hesitation and zero fear. K isn’t about plans or strategies—he’s about action. He’s about that split-second decision that flips the whole story upside down.
I see K typed as an ESTP a lot, and I couldn’t agree more. Everything about him screams Extraverted Sensing: he’s in the moment, attuned to every detail in the environment, and responds instantly to whatever chaos is unfolding around him. There’s no room in K’s world for abstract theorizing—he’s all about what’s real, what’s happening now, and what he can do about it. His auxiliary Introverted Thinking (Ti) gives him that mechanical precision in every fight, every quip, every risk he takes. He doesn’t just react—he calculates in the blink of an eye, turning every encounter into a live-wire performance.
K’s also got that ESTP charm—he’s magnetic in his own madcap way, impossible to ignore even if he’s also impossible to control. He doesn’t care about the rules or hierarchy—he’ll tell you exactly what he thinks, or better yet, he’ll show you by launching himself headfirst into whatever mess you’re too scared to face. In Soo-Yeol’s life, K is both the wrecking ball and the wake-up call. He’s the part of Soo-Yeol that won’t stand by while the world rots, the unpolished but vital conscience that says, “If nobody else will clean up this mess, I will.”
But K isn’t just some chaos-loving wildcard. He’s a protector. A living, breathing manifestation of everything Soo-Yeol can’t admit he wants to be: unafraid, unstoppable, and willing to do what’s right even if it’s insane. K is that part of us that refuses to stand down, that part that says, “Screw the rules—let’s fix this right now.”
Boss Yong: INTJ

Boss Yong is the shadow in the corner of every room, the puppet master behind every plot. She’s the kind of woman who can sit through a gourmet meal with a politician and casually plan a murder like she’s choosing an appetizer. Her mind is a maze of connections—no detail is too small, no thread too tangled for her to unravel. Everything she does is part of a bigger picture, a web of power and control. She doesn’t just play the game—she owns the board and the pieces, and she’ll burn the whole thing down if it suits her plan.
She’s the quintessential INTJ villain—unflappable, insightful, and always three steps ahead. Her dominant Introverted Intuition (Ni) makes her see the world in terms of systems and outcomes; she’s the woman who sees the patterns no one else can. She’s the kind of person who’ll trade a human life for a courier company without blinking because she’s already mapped out how that company will fit into her empire. Her auxiliary Extraverted Thinking (Te) ensures that every move is ruthlessly efficient—no wasted effort, no pointless drama. Boss Yong doesn’t need to raise her voice to be terrifying; she just needs to raise an eyebrow and the room goes cold.
Oh Kyeong-tae: INFJ

Oh Kyeong-tae is the moral compass in a world where everyone else seems to have misplaced theirs. He’s a by-the-book cop with a spine of steel and a heart that aches for the people he serves. Where Ryu Soo-Yeol cuts corners and makes shady deals, Kyeong-tae holds the line—always ready to protect the innocent, no matter how high the stakes or how lonely the fight. He’s the kind of guy who’ll promise a kid he’ll find her missing mom and then go to hell and back to keep that promise. Idealistic? Maybe. But in a show where cynicism is currency, Kyeong-tae’s stubborn faith in justice really stands out. I loved him immediately and was so happy to find such an amazing INFJ hero for my INFJ readers!
As an INFJ, Kyeong-tae is driven by a quiet, relentless purpose. His dominant Introverted Intuition (Ni) makes him see patterns and connections that others miss—like when he zeroes in on clues everyone else dismisses. He’s guided by an inner vision of what’s right, and he’ll fight for it with a calm intensity that brooks no compromise. His auxiliary Extraverted Feeling (Fe) gives him a deep sensitivity to the people around him—he’s deeply affected by suffering and goes the extra mile to take care of people. Even when he’s framed, battered, and betrayed, he refuses to back down because he knows the stakes are bigger than himself.
But Kyeong-tae isn’t some fragile idealist. There’s steel under all that compassion—he’s the guy who’ll threaten a corrupt detective with a knife if it means getting justice for a missing girl. He’s not afraid to stand up to the people who’d rather look the other way, even if it costs him his reputation and his safety. In a story full of crooked deals and moral compromise, Kyeong-tae is the reminder that integrity isn’t just an idea—it’s a choice, made over and over again, even when no one else is watching.
Shin Ju-Hyeok: INFJ

Shin Ju-Hyeok is the kind of therapist who can make you feel seen—like he’s holding up a mirror to your soul and showing you all the parts you’ve tried to hide. He’s calm, soft-spoken, and seems to know exactly what to say to make you feel understood. But scratch beneath the surface, and you’ll find an unsettling kind of insight—like he’s not just listening, he’s taking notes on how to break you. Shin doesn’t come at you with threats or fists. He comes at you with carefully chosen words and a disarming smile.
As an INFJ, Shin’s dominant Introverted Intuition (Ni) makes him a master of reading between the lines—picking up on the subtle cues and hidden fears that others miss. His auxiliary Extraverted Feeling (Fe) lets him mirror emotions so perfectly you’d swear he was on your side. But there’s something off in the way he uses these gifts—like he’s less interested in helping you grow and more interested in seeing how far he can push you. He’s the kind of person who turns vulnerability into an opportunity, weaving his way into your trust until you’re not sure where your thoughts end and his begin.
Lee Hui-Gyeom: ISTP

Lee Hui-Gyeom is the wildcard of the narcotics unit—tough, resourceful, and driven by a stubborn sense of justice that doesn’t ask for anyone’s permission. She’s got that ISTP spirit that says, “Why talk when you can act?”—a woman who doesn’t waste time with flowery speeches or unnecessary drama. She’s the one who shows up when the stakes are high and the rules don’t matter, turning every scrap of evidence and half-formed lead into a chance to set things right. If there’s a mess to fix, you can bet she’ll roll up her sleeves and jump in headfirst, no complaints.
Hui-Gyeom’s dominant Introverted Thinking (Ti) and auxiliary Extraverted Sensing (Se) work like a finely tuned machine. She sees the problem, weighs the facts, and dives straight into the action—no second-guessing, no wasted effort. She’s the type who can handle a tense investigation and a full-on brawl without blinking, all while keeping her calm, steely focus. But there’s more to her than just grit and quick reflexes—she’s got an unspoken loyalty that runs deep, a kind of quiet dedication to her team and the truth, no matter how dangerous it gets.
Underneath her sharp instincts and tough exterior, there’s a heart that refuses to quit—even when the odds are stacked against her. She’s the kind of person who’ll put herself in harm’s way to protect the people she cares about, who’ll stand up for what’s right even when everyone else has turned away. Lee Hui-Gyeom isn’t just a fighter—she’s a reminder that sometimes, the quietest voice in the room is the one that holds it all together.
Yang Jae-Seon: ENFP

Yang Jae-Seon turns every investigation into a mix of noble mission and mischievous side quest. He’s the junior detective who shadows Ryu Soo-Yeol, forever tugging him back from the moral abyss. He’s also pure ENFP magic—driven by a gut-level sense of right and wrong that never quits, even when the odds are stacked against him. His dominant Extraverted Intuition (Ne) is always scanning for new angles, new ways to fight for the underdog, and his auxiliary Introverted Feeling (Fi) keeps him laser-focused on what matters most—no compromise, no shortcuts. He’s the kind of guy who’ll pull a thousand gym machines into the precinct just to stay strong enough to stand up for his beliefs (and maybe show off a little, because why not?). He’s impulsive, funny, and so damn human it’s impossible not to love him.
Me and my daughter both screamed at the TV when we thought he had died—because Jae-Seon isn’t just a supporting character, he’s the soul of the team. His fierce loyalty, his goofy humor, the way he can turn every setback into a chance to shine—it’s everything you want in a friend and everything you’d be lucky to find in a cop.
Ryu Dong-Yeol: ESFP

As Soo-Yeol’s younger brother, Dong-Yeol is the fun-loving, impulsive heart of their family—quick to crack a joke, quick to jump headfirst into whatever adventure (or trouble) presents itself. Dong-Yeol lives in the moment, driven by his dominant Extraverted Sensing (Se) to chase the next good time with zero hesitation. If there’s a party, he’s the life of it; if there’s a crisis, he’s either throwing a childish tantrum or jumping headfirst into the fray.
But beyond the goofball antics, there’s a fiercely loyal soul. Dong-Yeol may be impulsive and sometimes childish, but his heart is in the right place—especially when it comes to his family. He’d go to the ends of the earth for them, no questions asked.
Andrei: ISTP

Andrei is the silent storm in Boss Yong’s arsenal—a man of few words and even fewer second thoughts. As her right-hand man, he moves like a shadow, handling threats with the quiet efficiency of someone who’s seen too much to flinch. He’s the kind of fighter who doesn’t waste time or breath; he just assesses the situation, acts, and vanishes like a ghost. Underneath that calm exterior is a mind wired for precision, with a dominant Introverted Thinking (Ti) that coolly dissects every problem he faces. He can find leverage points and opportunities rapidly, which, of course, makes him a formidable enemy.
But what really defines Andrei is his auxiliary Extraverted Sensing (Se)—that almost inhuman ability to react in the moment, to strike with deadly force and perfect timing. Whether he’s taking down a roomful of cops or standing silently behind Boss Yong’s shoulder, Andrei is the human embodiment of a blade—sharp, controlled, and utterly lethal. He’s not a man who explains himself, and he doesn’t need to. In a world where words are weapons, Andrei reminds us that sometimes the most dangerous thing in the room is the one who says nothing at all.
Kim Gye-Sik: ESTJ

Kim Gye-Sik is the no-nonsense team leader who seems like the backbone of any operation—disciplined, focused, and always two steps ahead. With the commanding presence of an ESTJ, he’s all about keeping the mission on track, making sure every box is checked and every corner of the precinct is in order.
But there’s a flicker of something more beneath that steady, watchful gaze—like he’s always weighing more than he lets on. His calm confidence and sharp mind make him a force to be reckoned with, whether you’re working with him or against him. In a world where everyone’s got a secret and every move has a consequence, Gye-Sik is the kind of leader who keeps you guessing—which is exactly why you can’t take your eyes off him.
Seungsuk Seo: Introvert and Feeling Preferences

Seungsuk Seo’s life revolves around her sons, and she’s the kind of woman who holds the family together with small kindnesses and unwavering faith. You get the sense that she’s seen enough of the world’s cruelty to know what matters—and she’s chosen to protect, to nurture, and to never stop believing in her children’s best selves.
There’s a quiet sorrow to her, too—a sense that she carries more than she lets on, shielding her sons from the weight of old secrets and hard truths. But she does it with grace, never letting her own pain overshadow her love. In a story full of shadows, Soo-Yeol’s mother is the warm light that says, “No matter how far you fall, you’ll always have a place to come home to.”
Yeom Geun-soo: ENFP or ESFP

Yeom Geun-soo is the kind of therapist who looks like he’s always one step away from either solving your deepest wounds or offering you a drink and calling it a day. Formerly a well-known psychiatrist, he now runs a quirky back-alley counseling center where the official paperwork is as suspicious as the clientele. There’s a playful energy to him—a sparkle in his eye that says he’s seen it all and still finds it endlessly fascinating. Whether he’s actually helping or just humoring you, there’s no denying he brings a certain spark to the role.
As an ENFP or ESFP, Geun-soo is quick to jump on an idea, quick to change the subject, and even quicker to get unwittingly wrapped up in Soo-Yeol’s psychological chaos. He might not have it all together, but he’s exactly the kind of wild card you want when life’s a mess and you need someone who’s not going to get to conflicted about dealing with your moral scruples.
